School of Science and Engineering Miss Ruth Nichols and Miss Mariam Joseph from the class of 2019 finished creating a graphic novel during the summer of 2018 that explains Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The graphic novel is free to view in full online at sciwarebiomed1.blogspot.com. The graphic novel is a project under the SciWare Books nonprofit company that Ruth Nichols and Mariam Joseph helped form in the summer of 2017.
Venturing Crew at Townview
We are forming a Venturing crew! Please join us, make new friends, and have a lot of fun! Venturing is about youth creating positive experiences (adventures!) that help them mature into responsible adults. It is for boys and girls aged 14 to 20 (13 is okay if you have completed 8th grade). We need more girls to join our great Crew! You do not need to have any Scouting affiliation to join.
Welcome to the group pool party Saturday August 25th. Our first meeting is August 28th from 7:15-9:00.
Two goals for this meeting:
- Share the vision of Crew 863
- Youth to determine the kinds of activities Crew 863 will do
Contact Aren Cambre for more information.
This is a branch of the Boy Scouts that is co-Ed. The emphasis here is on socializing and leadership skills, not badges. The kids get together and plan fun outings and figure out how to finance those excursions. They can be anywhere from the movies to a rim to rim exploring of the Grand Canyon. There are no mandatory meetings so it is pretty relaxed.
NEST CAMP FAQ (9TH Grade Only)
Math Department Questions:
If a student took Geometry in middle school, will they need to retake it? What will they take instead?
Incoming 9th graders that have taken Geometry in middle school will not need to retake the class. They will have an extra elective in their schedules.
If a student took Algebra II in middle school, will they need to retake it? What will they take instead?
Incoming 9th graders that have taken Algebra II will be handled on a case by case basis. Depending on math scores from the student’s application, summer assignments, and NEST Orientation scores, a student might need to retake Algebra II.
Science Department Questions:
What is a student has already taken PreAP Biology?
Incoming 9th graders that have taken PreAP Biology will be placed in AP Biology.
General Questions:
When will we know bus routes and how will they be published?
Bus routes will be published by the district later this summer. They will be published at https://www.dallasisd.org/busroutes , various district social media platforms, and shared with each campus principal. Mr. Palacios will disseminate bus route information to parents/students as soon as it becomes available to him.
