Inspiring Careers in Mental Health Internship

Inspiring Careers In Mental Health 2020 Flyer

My name is Amy Brenner, MSW, LCSW, and I am the director of the Inspiring Careers in Mental Health high school internship at the UT Southwestern Psychiatry Department. I am writing to invite students who will be rising 10th, 11th, and 12th graders this summer to consider applying. We are looking for students whose interests run towards the fields of mental health and medical provision.

This has been an exciting program in previous years, and we are hoping to grow it this year! Students are given the ability to meet in small groups with psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers, as well as nursing staff, to get in-depth information about the the provision of mental health services. Students also get the unusual opportunity to round with doctors and sit in on case conferences on various services at Parkland Hospital and see first-hand what the field has to offer.

The program meets for 2 weeks from June 1-12 (M-F). It is a competitive internship, as we keep the group small in order to have ideal access to providers. The application deadline is Monday, March 16, 2020.
I have attached the flyer describing the program and the application with further details. I hope you will consider passing this information along to students who would be interested. It is a wonderful opportunity to learn about a major medical center, to make connections in the mental health field, and to become inspired to work towards a rewarding career in mental health.

Sweet Treats for Seniors!

We’re asking for donations of cupcakes, candy, small bottles of water, and disposable plates and napkins, and treat bags that students can fill up and take with them. All items should be brought to Room 211 between 7:30-8:15 AM on February 13.

Thank you so much for your help in treating our seniors!
